I’m not the only one!
Finally. Someone has talked about the interesting impact video game technology is going to have on society. What do I mean? Quite simply, Grand Theft Auto 10. Crysis 8. Gears of War 17. The games are going to be all 18+ just because they look so realistic. It’s going to confuse humanity. Once you can recreate any video everything will instantly be presumed to be fake. Regardless if it was a video of your wife sleeping with someone or your reaction to winning the lottery. It will all, eventually, be fakeable. And most likely by Joe Blogs.
It just happens to be John Carmack, who in theory could be one of the first people to realistically achieve it. He creates ENTIRE ENGINES on his own!
“We are looking at interesting ramifications towards the tail end of hardware evolution in different areas when you’re looking 10 or 20 years out.”
Representing Wales, in the blue car, it’s Patric KILLME!
I thought I’d use my DJing psuedoname for my XBOXlive account. Unfortunately it wouldn’t allow enough letters so I changed my surname to KILLME!, purely for the irony value. I’m pretty good you see, some would say in my finest moments I am amazing. Anyway, they are skills i’ve developed over the best course of 12 years and its great fun mashing people online. I recently got hooked on the GRID demo. I LOVE this game! I
can’t believe they bothered to add an online aspect to the demo, but i’m glad they did. IMO, one of the best aspects of this game is a really simple thing, and something I don’t understand isn’t default everywhere. People are very patriotic. If they see a big menu with hundreds of flags on it, asking them to select theirs.. they WILL take the time to find it. I was so pleased to find my very own Welsh flag on the demo. The rivalry between the Engish, Scottish, Irish and Welsh is legendary and it seems to play a bit factor in the online banter.
So, just for the record please take the time to look at this screenshot. 10 players competing, 7 Englishmen, one Scott and an American. I beat them all. In fact I have about 30 shots of me at the top of the table, but I won’t bore you with them.
I guess I’m an Elitist
I hate the idea of being an Eliteist. It conjours up images of Nazi’s in my head and I can’t seem to get around it. However, I cannot deny that I am very patriotic to specific things if they pass all of my rigerous tests. I’m a wannabe evangelist for anything remotely trying to be different or cool. Or just useful or tasty. It doesn’t matter.
At work we have a particularly Elitist colleague. Some examples would be snubbing all ‘new’ videogames because they will never compare to Operation Flashpoint, a game nearing a decade old. Or maybe not wanting to eat “anything from the sea”. Or even any vegetables other than peas. In away I admire him – it must make his life a nightmare for no real reason!
I am deeply involved with computers. They are my tools. There seems to be two main types of tools available, and I stupidly chose the mass appeal option; Windows. For over 5 years I baffled myself with it until I took the plunge to try this ‘Mac’ thing. This was probably a defining moment in my career. It allows me to be so accurate digitally. With Windows you never knew if you were going to return and find your house burned down. Thanks to turning to the dark side i’ve managed to keep a record of everything for the last 8 odd years. If I was still using a PC this blog would be much more boring without pictures, files, downloads etc. In fact there simply would be no blog.
Microsoft eats an Apple but upgrades to an Orange and takes a Wii
I love my Xbox360 – its one of about 5 things that Microsoft have impressed me with recently. But I’ve also just seen the new interface for XboxLive announced at the recent E3 show. Come on! OK, so I do like it, but how blatant a rip off of an Apple interface can you get away with? Now don’t get me wrong – I adore shiny things; the shinier the better… but don’t pass it off as though you’ve just invented the techniques.
The 'revolutionary' XboxLive interface
That being said, I am genuinely looking forward to the update. I tend to stream a lot DIVx from my Mac and if it gives previews for those files on the network I will love it forever. It’ll be like Apple TV… for free. Plus it’ll actually PLAY my video files! (Come on Apple – I want to see more than just h264 codec support!) And what’s with ripping off Nintendo Wii’s avatars? I think the tech world is soon going to turn patent crazy.
